Growing cannabis, a source of CBD, can seem like an overwhelming task, but it’s really not that hard if you know what you’re doing. With the right resources and Budpop’s cbd gummies guide, anybody can grow marijuana – even if it’s your first time growing weed! In this guide, we’ll show you how to grow marijuana in just 7 simple steps so that you can get high-quality buds for yourself or start your own marijuana business and make money by growing cannabis!
Choosing Where to Start
The first step in growing cannabis is deciding where you’re going to do it. You have three options: outdoor, indoor, or a combination of both. Outdoor cultivation takes up a lot more space and can be difficult if you live in an urban environment without access to land, but the potential yields are much greater than with an indoor grow op. Indoor cultivation has many advantages such as it being easier to control the environment and produce consistent results each time you harvest. Plus, with the use of lights, there’s no need to worry about natural light cycles affecting your plants.
The final option – combining outdoor and indoor cultivation – gives you some of the benefits of both types while taking up less space overall.
Choosing Cannabis Seeds
The second step in growing cannabis is picking the seeds. You have a variety of choices when it comes to seed selection, and you’ll want to take into account your climate. For example, if you live in an area where you can grow outdoors year-round, you may want a fast-flowering hybrid that produces high yields. But if you live somewhere with changing seasons or limited space indoors, a feminized seed will be better. Once you’ve chosen what kind of cannabis seeds to buy, pick from three different types: Regular Cannabis Seeds: These are low cost but don’t offer any guarantees about the gender. Feminized Cannabis Seeds: These guarantee female plants (which produce flowers). Buy as many as possible for higher yields. Autoflowering Cannabis Seeds: These start flowering automatically without change in light cycle and reach maturity more quickly than other strains
Starting Germination
Once you’ve chosen your strain, it’s time to start the process. The first step is germination. Add water to a spray bottle and spray the seeds evenly with the water. Leave them out on the paper towel overnight until they are fully soaked through and have a round, white appearance. Once this has happened, take a plastic baggie and shake out any excess water from the seeds until they are dry enough so that when you touch them, there is no moisture left on your fingers. Take a peat pellet or something similar in size (if you’re using pellets) and place one seed inside of it. Place the pellet into a container filled with moist soil at room temperature (no colder than 68 degrees Fahrenheit) then seal the container shut. Covering the container or using a cannabis tent will prevent condensation from forming on top of it which can cause mold growth. Mist twice per day or more often if needed to keep the soil moist but not wet. When tiny sprouts emerge from the seed, carefully transplant it into an individual pot with its own rich soil mix and make sure to keep it warm while still providing plenty of light. Your plant needs 18 hours worth of light every day to grow properly; be sure to rotate your plants regularly so each one gets an even amount of light exposure. In about 10-12 weeks, you should be able to harvest some buds!
Vegetative Stage
During the vegetative stage, light and darkness alternate in a cycle from 16 hours of light followed by 8 hours of darkness to 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. In order to get the best yield during this time period, it is important that your plant receives 18-24 hours of light each day (with a maximum of 24). The time that your lights turn on should be close to the time that they turn off.
Flowering Stage
During the flowering stage, it is time to remove the males from the crop if you are growing a strain that flowers and produces seeds. You can tell if a plant is male or female by looking at the underside of its leaves. The females will have small white hairs on their leaves near their stem. If there are no hairs, it is a male plant. If you grow both female and male plants together, they will pollinate each other and produce seeds.
Harvest Time
If you are using the natural light cycle, your cannabis will be ready to harvest in late September. If you are using a grow light, it should be ready around the same time. Harvesting marijuana is an easy process and there are two ways to do it: dry and wet. To dry the plant, cut the stems off of each plant at ground level then remove all of the leaves that have turned brown or wilted. Bundle up all of your dried plants and hang them upside down in a dark place with good airflow until they are completely dry; this could take up to one week if it’s humid outside or as little as three days if not. After the plant has dried out completely, break it up by hand into smaller pieces and store it in an airtight container away from any sunlight. To harvest wet, water your plants well about 24 hours before harvesting so that the leaves wilt and become heavy.
